How To Make Poha Upma

One of the easiest and healthiest south Indian breakfast and dinner preparing with poha or aval. It can be served with coffee or tea

Ingredients:

1 Cup Poha
1 medium size onion sliced thinly
1 Tomato chopped
2 Green chilly slit or chopped
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp channa dal
1 tsp Urad dal
1 tsp Groundnut (Optional)
2 tsp Oil
Few curry leaves
Salt to taste

Preparation:

Rinse the Aval 2 to 3 times and soak it in hot water along with salt for 10 minutes. When the Aval comes soft texture, drain the remaining water and keep aside until cook

Instructions:
  • Heat a pan add 2 tsp oil add mustard seeds. when the mustard seeds start crackle, add channa and urad dal sauté them until turns golden brown
  • Add curry leaves,onion,green chilies and sauté for a minute until onion turns transparent
  • Add tomato fry until it turns mushy and the raw smell of tomatoes disappear
  • Finally add soaked Poha mix well and cook for a minute on low heat
  • Serve the poha upma hot with Coffee or tea

Notes:
If you are using thick Aval rinse the aval 2 or 3 times, drain it completely.then add some water,let it sit 10 to 15 minutes. So that it will become soft
You can use any kind of aval.but make sure check it is soft before adding to the Upma
when you saute the onion, sprinkle some salt to the onion. it will be helped to onion cook faster
